Text –   We had an interview with Nephews Noise right before his concert in London at the Wembley arena. This is exactly one year since his album came out with a cross between hip hop and R’n’B which has topped both charts.  At mainstream Magazine we were delighted to have an interview with him. Here’s his answers to our questions.

Q. Hello Nephew’s Noise, how busy has the last year been with the new album coming out?

A.  It’s been extremely busy, it was a slow start because not many people had heard of me but once people started buying the album and hearing some of tracks on the radio and internet I just became more and more popular. It was amazing how fast the news got around.

Q. With so many people knowing who you are now, do you have any plans to start touring nationally and maybe internationally?

A. The tour that’s being planned is going through all the main cities around the Uk and there’s over 50 venues. Half of the tickets have already been sold for most of the venues but there’s still plenty more left and there’s plenty more time for my fans to start buying these tickets. The tours start in the summer of next year and last until the winter. There are no plans for international tours yet but there’s still the possibility of it happening in the future if I grow a wider global fan base.

Q. Are you amazed how many people like your music and how popular it has become all of sudden?

A. yes, It’s  quite shocking how so many people like my music and they took an instant attraction to it. I was surprised when I started selling albums so fast but the best bit was how high up the charts I was getting. For someone who just broke into the music business it’s been an amazing time. Time has flown by, it was only a year and a half ago when I was doing a normal job every day of the week and was listening to some of my idols in the music industry and now I’ve got songs which are selling.

Q. Why do you think your songs have become an instant success with the general public?

A. I’m not sure really, When I wrote them they were just songs from things that have happened in my life or what I want to happen in the future.  I think the way it’s sung and the music is a big factor why people like it. Its unique and different which I think makes it so popular. I didn’t want to follow other artists and create something the same that’s already in the market, I wanted to be unique and create my own style, this is the reason why it’s a cross between hip hop and R’n’B.

Q. Where did the name Nephew Noise come from?

A. Well when I was younger I had many nephews who were always making noise and being loud and all I wanted to do was listen to my music. So that’s when the name originates from. Quite simple really.

Q. What inspired you to chase your dream and become an artist?

A. It’s always been a dream of mine and I used to listen to R’n’B and hip hop when I was younger but there was not much music about like this about. My family supported me a lot when I went through the process of submitting my unique style of music to record producers but the perseverance paid off and I signed a record deal.

Thanks for the interview Nephews Noise, good luck with the tour.

Draft Colour Schemes

These colour work well as the white/ grey can be the main colour on the page and this makes the black and yellow stand out. For example there could be a white - grey background with black fonts and highlight the words in yellows that I want to stand out to the audience.  I think this colour scheme would give an overall good effect to the magazine. The black connotes evilness and mystery and white connotes purity and innocence, these being contrasting colours I think would work together well in a music magazine as it would make parts if the magazine stand out.

I think this is a good colour scheme like the 1st colour scheme it has the neutral colour of white which could work as the main colour of the magazine. Orange connotes happiness, as this is a mix between red, a high-energy colour, and yellow, a colour of joy. The orange would work as a colour for font style on the magazine to be able to make text stand out and appeal to the audience.  This would also work well in a music magazine as white or black could be the background and the opposite colour would stand out on the background. The orange could be used to highlight certain words on the page that you want to stand out the audience.

I think this colour scheme is different from the normal bright looking colors but it is dull and boring. It’s a natural scheme. The colour blue connotes a peaceful and surrounding environment.  Blue would be the main colour of the color scheme as it takes control.  The light grey would act as a bright background colour but not being as plain as the colour white.

These are all bright outstanding colour that would catch the readers eye and rally would catch their attention. Blue connotes peacefulness and yellow connotes happiness and it also encourages people to concentrate more so this could be used as a colour for headlines or titles to make it stand out and appeal to the audience.

Summary of Conventions in Music Magazines

These magazines show the typography and colour is used well to attract the audience, making it stand out. The makers of these magazines have thought about colour schemes which work well together as they also stand out on the front cover, contents page and double page spread. For example white text on black background makes it stand out to the eye. An ordered layout around the magazine on all pages makes it easy for the reader to navigate the page and also easier to read. Also with the layout having the route of the eye or the rule of thirds this can help the audience when reading the page. The ratio of image to text has to be balanced for the reader to read the page because too much text could put someone off reading the page. Images are thought in this by normally having close eye level shots of the people in these magazines. The mise – en – scene is thought having the costumes the same colour as the background so it goes well together and so they can lay the text above it that makes it stand out.

The magazine layout doe follow the route of the eye with it going through the title, then the center of the main image and the cover lines and finishing with the caption. The principal of thirds is also used in this as the main 4 points. There is a good amount of text to image as the text surrounds the main images well and it doesn’t drown the image out.

The black and white are two colors that can be used to make to text stand out to the audience and can appeal to the eye. This could be why these two colors are chosen because they stand out. This font style suggests that these are keywords and that they want the audience to see this as it appears more to a person. The other text on the page which is the actual contents of the magazine has a curly an informal look for the tittle and this also contains different font types.  The different variations of font styles in the same text can make the audience read more of the text.  These variations in font style can make the audience read on and this is also unique to see the same text to have different styles.

Layout – this double page spread has a good ordered layout. The top half of both pages has pictures of this female charter all in different poses. The bottom half of the page has he main body of the text. The route of the eye is used in this because the audience would see the different picture at the top of the page and then see the text and this would give the effect attracting the readers.
